I am Katie Hosbach and this is my 17th year teaching in the Troy School District. I am constantly striving to create a classroom environment that encourages students to look closer, think harder, ask questions, find answers, try new materials, express themselves, create, wonder, and inspire others.
Growing up, I attended Rochester Community Schools where I discovered and explored my love for art AND teaching. I received my bachelor of science in Art Education from Wayne State University in May of 2004. I also received my Masters degree from WSU in Art Education/Art Therapy in the spring of 2009. I have lived in Royal Oak for 14 years with my husband Mike who is also a teacher and coach in the Troy School District. In my free time, I love painting, practicing yoga, cooking, traveling, and taking walks with my two dogs, Lucy and Henry. I am also working on writing and illustrating a children's book.
I am very proud to be a part of the outstanding Troy School District. I truly enjoy working with children and love guiding them to develop a passion for becoming critical thinkers, problems solvers and innovators. The arts help students build solid connections with other academic areas and integrate learning across all subject areas. I am very excited to have an inspirational year with my students here at Bemis.
In addition to teaching, I also serve in the role of elementary art department head Troy School District. This includes leading and my department in many areas including; organizing opportunities for student work to be displayed within and outside of our community, curriculum development, and facilitating professional development opportunities to support and educate teachers. All of these extra duties provide ALL students in TROY with the very best art education experience.
